New Delhi: Despite a conflict between India and Pakistan, the Asia Cup 2025 has finely got the nod and is expected to be played in September, as per media sources. Earlier, their was a shadow over the tournament after the socio-political differences between India and Pakistan due to the terror attack in Pahlagam in April in which 26 people were killed.
As per a report in the Times of India, the Asia Cup is set to be played from September 5 to 21 in the UAE. Dubai and Abu Dhabi have been shortlisted as the venues for the eight-team event. Apart from India and Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, UAE, Oman and Hong Kong will participate in the 2025 edition.
BCCI agrees to attend ACC meet
This comes after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) agreed to be a part of the annual general meeting (AGM) of the ACC slated to be held on July 24 and 25. Earlier, the BCCI along with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) decided to skip the meeting in person due to security concerns in Dhaka and requested the ACC to shift the meeting to some other place.
The ACC, however, did not agree to the request of the BCCI and continued with their schedule of hosting the meeting in Bangladesh only. BCCI had received full support from SLC and Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) in boycotting the meeting but late on July 23, Wednesday, the Indian cricket board decided to take a u-turn and attend the meeting, albeit virtually.
As per some media reports, the two-day AGM will be attended virtually by the BCCI, the SLC and ACB as well while Pakistan and other nations would be present in physical for the all-important meet where the most important topic for discussion is expected to be the Asia Cup.
