Mamta Kulkarni Remembers Nana Patekar’s Caring Nature: ‘He Treated Me Like a Child’

Actress Mamta Kulkarni has recalled her fond memories of veteran actor Nana Patekar, remembering his warmth, simplicity and concern for her while they worked together in Tiranga and Krantiveer.

In an interaction with IANS, Mamta spoke about the bond they shared while living in the same building in Mumbai’s Lokhandwala. She said Patekar would often advise her to dry her wet hair before leaving for early-morning film shoots, worried that she might fall ill.

Expressing sadness over his death, Mamta recalled how she would leave for shooting around 5.30 or 6 a.m. and often see Patekar playing badminton. She would greet him, and he would notice her wet hair and insist that she return home to dry it before heading to the set.

“He treated me like a child,” she recalled, describing the actor’s caring and protective behaviour.

Mamta, known for her role in Karan Arjun, also praised Patekar’s acting abilities and down-to-earth personality. She said he remained unassuming despite his stature in the film industry and never displayed airs of stardom.

The two actors worked together in Tiranga, which became a hit, and Krantiveer, which was also a major success. Both films were directed by Mehul Kumar, and Patekar received awards for his performances, Mamta said.

She also remembered visiting his home, where he would ask what she wanted to eat. When she requested tea, he would simply direct her to the kitchen to make it herself.

Recalling his unpretentious lifestyle, Mamta said Patekar would often sit on the terrace and did not behave like a star.

Nana Patekar passed away on October 8, 2026, at the age of 75.
