In a remarkable display of batting, Indian cricketers have set a new record during the second T20 International match against West Indies at the JSCA International Cricket Stadium in Ranchi.
Thanks to explosive performances from Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan, the Indian team scored 79 runs in the powerplay, marking their highest total against West Indies in this phase of the game. Previously, the record stood at 72 runs, achieved in 2019 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
After losing the toss and being put to bat first, India started strong. The opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson contributed significantly, amassing 42 runs in just 3.6 overs. However, Abhishek could not capitalize on his start, falling for 20 runs off 12 balls. Samson, on the other hand, made the most of his second chance after being dropped on just six runs.
Samson showcased his exceptional form, reaching his half-century in just 21 balls, which ties for the fastest fifty for India in T20s against West Indies. This record was previously held by Virat Kohli, who also scored a fifty in 21 balls against the Caribbean team in 2019.
In the fifth over, Samson unleashed his aggression, hitting two sixes and two fours off Akil Hossain, accumulating 22 runs in that over. Ishan Kishan also looked in great touch, quickly accumulating runs against the West Indies bowlers. India’s playing XI remained unchanged for this match, while West Indies made one adjustment, bringing in Gudakesh Motie.
India’s playing XI includes: Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer (captain), Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Naman Dhir, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mayank Yadav.
West Indies’ lineup features: Shai Hope (wicketkeeper/captain), Kamil Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, Roston Chase, Romario Shepherd, Gudakesh Motie, Shamar Springer, Akil Hossain, and Shamar Joseph.
