With just a few hours remaining ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party’s planned October 10 protest at Jantar Mantar, the Delhi Police has geared up for the demonstration in a massive manner.
According to sources, the police have instructed their teams to detain anyone attempting to stage a protest, irrespective of their location in the national capital.
In addition to this, the Delhi Police has also instructed CAPF units not to issue weapons for the CJP protest deployment, sources informed. Letters have been sent to the concerned directorates regarding the allotment plan.
Unlike the deployment during the INDIA alliance protest, police teams have now been authorised to carry lathis and batons, sources said, adding that the teams have been clearly instructed to avoid verbal confrontations with the protesters to avoid deliberate attempts to record and circulate videos portraying police in a negative light.
6 Designated Detention Centres
In anticipation of the violence that might erupt on Saturday during the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar, sources informed that the Delhi Police is planning to shuft the detained protesters to six designated detention centres. The six detention centre are as follows:
- Chhatrasal Stadium
- Rajiv Gandhi Stadium
- Yamuna Sports Complex
- Surajmal Stadium
- Community Centre, Daulatpur
- Community Centre, Pandrawal
Additional women personnel from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana have also been called in for the October 10 protest, sources said.
Multiple Facial Recognition Systems (FRS), additional CCTV cameras, rooftop spotters and drones will also be deployed across Central Delhi.
Over 35,000 Personnel To Be Deployed
According to sources, it has been learnt that more than 35,000 Delhi Police and paramilitary personnel are expected to be deployed for the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, where the protesters will be demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has maintained that permission to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar was not granted to the CJP.
Over 7,000 Protestors Expected
Ahead of the protest, the Delhi Police is expecting around 7,000 protesters to arrive in the national capital on October 10. In view of the protest, senior police officers have instructed personnel to exercise restraint and handle the situation in a completely professional manner, sources said.
According to sources, during a briefing by senior Delhi Police officers, personnel were clearly instructed not to react if any protester engages in provocative acts during the demonstration and to exercise maximum restraint.
Sources said Delhi Police has made it clear that no unauthorised gathering will be allowed. If anyone claiming to be an independent journalist attempts to provoke police personnel or create a confrontation, action may also be taken against them, depending on the circumstances.
Senior police officers have directed personnel to ensure that the entire force operates professionally. They also clarified that senior officers will remain present at the spot and will take necessary decisions depending on the situation.
