‘Besharam’ Actress Pallavi Sharda Recalls Longing for India While Growing Up in Australia

Actress Pallavi Sharda has reflected on her evolving relationship with India, recalling how she longed for the country while growing up in Australia and how her travels across the country in 2025-26 have strengthened her connection with her roots.

The actress, who starred opposite Ranbir Kapoor in the 2013 film Besharam, recently took to Instagram to share photographs from her journeys through Delhi, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Mumbai, Kerala and other destinations.

Describing India as a place she yearned for even before experiencing it, Pallavi said every visit has offered her a fresh perspective on her identity and personal journey.

“ The place that I longed for while sitting on the school asphalt on a hot summers day in Australia… even though I had not experienced her,” she wrote, reflecting on the country she came to regard as home during her formative years.

Pallavi also spoke about the unusual direction of her migration journey, noting that while many people leave India during that stage of life, she moved from Australia towards India.

“I am still integrating what it was and how it unfolded,” she wrote, describing her pursuit of dreams as both a difficult challenge and a profound gift. Despite the complexities of that journey, she said India continues to ignite her sense of aliveness.

On the professional front, Pallavi is set to appear in the French-Indian romantic film Stay. She will reportedly play Sailee, a recently divorced woman living in India who is being groomed to take over her father’s successful company.

The story follows Sailee during a trip to Paris, where she falls for Leo, a delivery driver who dreams of becoming an actor. Their relationship faces challenges stemming from family expectations, class differences and the economic and cultural realities of their lives in France and India.

Last month, Pallavi reflected on the immersive nature of filmmaking, describing cinema as a “weird world” that draws actors into “vortexes of creation” even when the cameras are not rolling.

In Besharam, directed by Abhinav Kashyap, she starred alongside Ranbir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor and Javed Jaffrey. The film follows Babli, a small-time car thief whose life takes a turn when he falls in love with Tara and decides to change his ways.
