Car Sales Sep 2026, Q3 26 – Maruti, Tata, Mahindra, Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, MG, Skoda, Honda

Car sales rose 20.91% year-on-year in September, with Maruti Suzuki leading the market and Tata retaining second place ahead of Mahindra. Combined July–September volumes crossed 13.62 lakh units.

Car sales across reached 4,57,604 units in September 2026, up from 3,78,457 units a year earlier. This represents an increase of 79,147 units, or 20.91%. Sales also grew 3.63% over August 2026, when these manufacturers recorded 4,41,576 units.

Car Sales Sep 2026 – Maruti Leads, Tata Holds Second

Maruti Suzuki sold 1,81,838 units in September, growing 36.90% year-on-year and 2.75% month-on-month. Its increase of 49,017 units accounted for more than 60% of the overall year-on-year volume gain across the manufacturers listed.

Tata followed with 68,810 units, up 15.32% over September last year and 5.45% over August. Mahindra took third place with 64,092 units, registering growth of 13.98% year-on-year and 8.16% month-on-month. The gap between Tata and Mahindra stood at 4,718 units.

Hyundai recorded 57,166 units, growing 10.90% annually and 5.09% sequentially. Kia followed with 32,017 units, up 41.04% year-on-year and 10.24% month-on-month. Toyota’s sales fell to 25,027 units, down 7.61% from September 2025 and 11.91% from August 2026.

MG Grows, Nissan Nearly Doubles Sales

JSW MG recorded 8,018 units, an increase of 19.17% year-on-year and 6.79% month-on-month. Skoda sold 6,102 units, recovering 8% over August but remaining 8.05% below its year-ago volume. Honda declined on both comparisons, with sales of 4,465 units.

Renault recorded 3,399 units, down 20.30% annually but up 19.60% sequentially. Nissan followed closely with 3,300 units, nearly doubling its year-ago sales, although volumes slipped 3.68% from August. Volkswagen sold 2,218 units, declining both year-on-year and month-on-month. Citroen recorded 900 units, up 22.62% annually, while Jeep sold 252 units, down 16% year-on-year but up 11.50% over August.

September Market Share – Maruti And Kia Gain YoY

Maruti Suzuki’s market share increased to 39.74%, gaining 4.64 percentage points over September 2025. However, its share was slightly lower than August’s 40.08%, as its monthly growth trailed the overall increase.

Tata held a 15.04% share, followed by Mahindra at 14.01% and Hyundai at 12.49%. All three gained share over August but lost ground year-on-year, as their annual sales growth was below the overall 20.91% increase.

Kia’s share rose to 7%, gaining 1 percentage point year-on-year and 0.42 percentage points month-on-month. Toyota’s share dropped to 5.47%, down 1.69 percentage points annually and 0.96 percentage points sequentially. Among the remaining manufacturers, JSW MG held 1.75%, Skoda 1.33% and Honda 0.98%. Nissan improved its share to 0.72% from 0.44% a year earlier.

Q3 2026 Sales Rise 29.40%

For calendar-year Q3, covering July–September 2026, combined sales reached 13,62,429 units. This was an increase of 3,09,584 units, or 29.40%, over the 10,52,845 units recorded in the same quarter last year.

Maruti Suzuki led with 5,55,012 units, up 38.11%. Tata retained second place with 1,96,674 units and growth of 40.29%, ahead of Mahindra’s 1,83,397 units, up 26.04%. Hyundai recorded 1,65,772 units, growing 18.82%.

Kia’s quarterly sales rose 38.51% to 89,259 units, placing it ahead of Toyota, which declined 1.87% to 83,953 units. Nissan posted the highest percentage growth at 152.33%, reaching 11,244 units. Citroen also grew strongly, while Renault, Volkswagen and Jeep reported lower quarterly volumes.

Q3 Market Share – Maruti And Tata Strengthen Positions

Maruti’s quarterly share rose to 40.74%, gaining 2.57 percentage points year-on-year. Tata increased its share to 14.44%, up 1.12 percentage points, while Kia gained 0.43 percentage points to reach 6.55%.

Mahindra’s share stood at 13.46% and Hyundai’s at 12.17%, both lower than a year earlier despite higher sales. Toyota recorded the largest quarterly share decline, falling 1.96 percentage points to 6.16%.
