Arsenal tipped to cut losses on Viktor Gyokeres as Arteta doubts striker’s fit

Arsenal face a critical crossroads with  as doubts mount over his fit within Mikel Arteta’s tactical setup, with the club reportedly ready to consider offers for the big-money signing.

Despite arriving at the Emirates Stadium amid high expectations following a sensational goal-scoring record at Sporting CP, Gyokeres has struggled to cement his place as Arteta’s preferred striker this season.

Former chief scout Mick Brown has cast a stark light on the Sweden international’s precarious situation. Speaking to   Insider, Brown highlighted how Kai Havertz’s emergence as Arteta’s first-choice forward underscores the uncertainty surrounding Gyokeres. “I think it’s clear that they have some serious doubts about   at Arsenal,” Brown stated. “They worked hard to bring him in from Sporting, where he was really impressive, but he’s never quite seemed to get going at Arsenal and that’s now becoming an issue.”

The 28-year-old’s inability to adapt to Arteta’s playing style has become a significant concern. Brown emphasized that Gyokeres “isn’t a good match for their system and that’s unlikely to change at this stage,” despite his undeniable talent showcased during international duty with Sweden. “Arteta isn’t trusting him to play from the start this season, Kai Havertz has been the first-choice striker, and that’s a bad sign for somebody they spent a huge fee on last year.”

Gyokeres sent a clear message of his clinical finishing during the recent ,scoring in four consecutive matches, including a match-winning goal against Romania. This prolific form on the international stage starkly contrasts with his struggles at club level, raising questions about whether Arsenal can create the conditions for him to thrive within their system.

Brown suggested that Arsenal may soon have to “cut their losses and admit they got this one wrong,” potentially seeking to recoup their investment if suitable offers materialize. “If offers come in for him, I’m sure Arsenal will be willing to listen,” he added.

With Havertz sidelined by a hamstring injury, Gyokeres now has a crucial opportunity to translate his international scoring prowess into performances and alter perceptions before his Arsenal future is further jeopardized. However, the tactical mismatch remains a glaring obstacle, leaving Arsenal’s management with a difficult decision on the horizon.
