Narendra Modi Stadium Gets Hoax Bomb Threat During India U-19 Test

The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad received a bomb threat by email on Wednesday while the India Under-19 and Australia Under-19 teams were still at the venue for the second Youth Test.

The threat triggered a security response shortly before the match concluded, with authorities investigating the email and subsequently confirming that it was a hoax. Both teams completed the match and later left the stadium safely after following the required security protocols.

The email was received by authorities at around 11 am IST, shortly before the match ended at approximately 11:15 am. A Cyber Cell team reached the stadium to investigate the threat, although the players were not initially informed about the development. The two teams were later made aware of the situation and left the venue at around 1 pm after security procedures were carried out. Local police subsequently confirmed that the threat was not genuine.

The Gujarat Cricket Association informed the police soon after receiving the email. GCA secretary Anil Patel said, “We informed the local police as soon as we received the email.” He added that similar incidents had occurred at the stadium in the past, including during the 2023 ODI World Cup and the Indian Premier League. The threat at the stadium was also part of a wider security alert in Ahmedabad, where the Gujarat High Court and several schools and colleges received similar emails.

The messages sent to various establishments also contained references to Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh and warned people against attending his November 21 concert at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The emails included pro-Khalistan messages and referred to his November 1 performance at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Security personnel and bomb detection teams were subsequently deployed at educational institutions that received the threats as authorities examined the messages.

The security scare came after India Under-19 completed a dominant 10-wicket victory over Australia Under-19 in the second Youth Test. Debutant Tanmay Baloda was the standout performer for India, taking 14 wickets on his Under-19 debut. Despite the threat being received while the teams were still at the stadium, the match was completed without a security emergency and both squads eventually departed safely.

The Narendra Modi Stadium has faced similar threats in the past. During the 2023 ODI World Cup, multiple threats were received ahead of the India-Pakistan match, including an email warning of an explosion, after which police arrested a 29-year-old man from Rajkot in connection with the message. In May 2025, ahead of an IPL match between Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants, the Gujarat Cricket Association received an email threatening to “blast” the stadium. Police and bomb disposal teams searched the venue and found nothing suspicious. Wednesday’s threat was likewise determined to be a hoax.
