OnePlus confirms OxygenOS 16 launch on October 16 with new AI features

New Delhi: OnePlus has finally put an end to weeks of teasers by announcing that OxygenOS 16 will launch on October 16 in India. The update will be based on Android 16 and comes just a day after OPPO unveils ColorOS 16 in China. The company shared a teaser image with the tagline “Intelligently Yours,” giving a clear signal that artificial intelligence will play a major role in this release.

This is not just another UI refresh. OxygenOS 16 is being introduced with new AI branding called “OnePlus AI.” For long-time users like me, OxygenOS always stood out because of its balance between speed and simplicity. Now it looks like OnePlus is ready to bring AI to the center of its software experience.

Google Gemini models integrated into OxygenOS 16

Last week OnePlus confirmed that Google’s Gemini AI models will be built into OxygenOS 16. The company said this integration will power features that act as “your planner, assistant, and manager – all in one.” A big part of this is a feature called Mind Space. This hub will organize user memories and collections, and Gemini will be able to access this content to complete tasks.

OnePlus demonstrated how it would work by showing an example of someone asking Gemini to plan a five-day trip to Paris. The AI was able to pull details from the Mind Space app and put together a plan. This type of use case shows how the update is expected to go beyond simple phone commands and move into everyday planning.

Mind Space and Plus Mind features

The company described Mind Space as the central hub of the new software. From here, Google Gemini will use stored photos, notes, or collections to generate useful results. In addition, Plus Mind is being mentioned as another feature that Gemini can tap into for personalised assistance.

According to the announcement, the objective is to reduce the need for people to manually scroll through saved items. For example, instead of digging through old screenshots to find a restaurant address, a user could just ask Gemini and get the result instantly.

Possible debut with OnePlus 15

Reports suggest that the upcoming OnePlus 15 may be the first phone to run OxygenOS 16 right out of the box. Older OnePlus devices are also expected to receive the update through an OTA rollout, though the eligibility list has not yet been confirmed. The company has said only that the rollout is “coming soon” with more details expected at launch.

As a OnePlus user myself, I remember waiting for OxygenOS 11 to hit my device and constantly checking the settings menu for updates. That anxious refresh cycle may repeat this month for many users, especially with the buzz around AI.

What to expect on October 16

The official event will finally give clarity on which devices are supported and when the rollout begins. Along with redesigned elements, OxygenOS 16 will mark the first big step for OnePlus into AI-powered software. Features like on-device AI chat, “circle to search,” and object recognition from the camera are also being hinted at in reports.

For now, the teaser tagline “Intelligently Yours” captures the theme. On October 16, we will know how much of this AI promise translates into real everyday usefulness for OnePlus users.
