Sourav Ganguly has been appointed head coach of Delhi Capitals for the IPL 2027 season, marking his first stint as a head coach in the Indian Premier League after years of serving the franchise in various leadership roles.
Ganguly has been associated with Delhi Capitals since 2019 and has held several positions, including Director of Cricket for both the men’s and women’s teams. He succeeds Hemang Badani, who was in charge for the past two seasons.
The franchise has also parted ways with bowling coach Munaf Patel, team director Venugopal Rao and assistant coach Ian Bell after finishing sixth in IPL 2026.
The former India captain is expected to assemble his own support staff, with reports linking former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh to a possible coaching role.
Ganguly, who coached Pretoria Capitals to the SA20 final last season, said he was excited to begin a new chapter with the franchise.
“I am looking forward to taking on the role of Head Coach in the IPL. Delhi Capitals is a franchise very close to my heart,” Ganguly said.
He will work alongside captain Axar Patel and senior batter KL Rahul, while the return of Rishabh Pant from Lucknow Super Giants has strengthened the team’s experienced Indian core.
Welcoming the appointment, Delhi Capitals chairman and co-owner Parth Jindal described Ganguly as an integral part of the franchise and expressed confidence in his leadership as the team prepares for IPL 2027.
