Madhur Bhandarkar Explores Kolkata, Savours Kulhad Chai and Street Food

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar recently offered fans a glimpse of his Kolkata visit, sharing moments from his time in the ‘City of Joy’ as he explored its street food and local culture.

Taking to Instagram, the director of Fashion posted pictures and a video from his Kolkata diaries, showing himself enjoying kulhad chai at a roadside stall and taking in the city’s vibrant street life.

“Kulhad chai, street food, and Kolkata vibes. Truly soaking in the soul of the #CityofJoy,” Bhandarkar wrote alongside the post.

The filmmaker was seen enjoying tea served in a traditional earthen cup and also stopped to pose for selfies with fans. In another photograph, he was seen smiling while holding a cup of chai. Bhandarkar opted for a casual look, wearing a black T-shirt, blue jeans and white shoes.

Bhandarkar, who recently participated in the 14th Jagran Film Festival, has also spoken about the challenges of working as an independent filmmaker in the Hindi film industry.

Reflecting on his career, he said there is no certainty about what will succeed at the box office or how audiences will respond to a film.

“No one knows what will work at the box office. And when it will work. And what the audience will like,” he said.

The filmmaker also noted that those working independently often have to build their careers outside established industry groups and networks.

“We are not in a lobby or a gang or a coterie,” Bhandarkar said, describing the challenges faced by filmmakers who operate outside established industry circles.
