On Sunday, clashes between the two groups occurred due to differences over playing sharp music during a procession in the Dargah market area of ​​Cuttack. After this the internet was shut down, a shutdown was called and all political parties appealed for peace.

Clash in Cuttack Dargah market

According to police and eyewitnesses, the first round of violence took place between 1:30 and 2 pm on Saturday night. The Durga statue immersion procession going from the Dargah market area towards the Kathjodi River was stopped by a group of local people. He objected to the music playing in a loud voice late at night.

The dispute soon increased. Stones and glass bottles were thrown from the roofs. After this, the people involved in the procession retaliated. In this chaos, many people including Cut Police Deputy Commissioner (DCP) player Rishikesh Gyan Dev were injured. The police conducted light lathicharge to disperse the crowd and restore the system. So far at least six people have been arrested. Officers are checking CCTV, drone and mobile footage to identify other people.

Stress increased after Vishwa Hindu Parishad rally

Efforts were on to get normal in Cuttack. Meanwhile, the tension again increased after the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) organized a bike rally violating the restrictions of the district administration on Sunday evening. The rally started from Bidyadharpur located on the eastern outskirts and ended in Sector 11 of the CDA region via the Dargah market (which was the center of clashes earlier). The Commissionerate Police used mild force to disperse the groups attempting to disturb the peace.

Internet closed till 7 pm on Monday evening in Cuttack

In view of violence and increasing tension, the Odisha government suspended the Internet services from 7 pm to 7 pm on Sunday evening to 7 pm in Cuttack Municipal Corporation, Cuttack Development Authority (CDA) and surrounding area. Officials said that the purpose of this step is to stop the spread of misinformation and curb inflammatory social media content. WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and other platforms will not work during this period.
