Odisha announces cash award for Indian men’s hockey team after Asian Games 2026 gold

Bhubaneswar: Following the  team’s gold medal-winning performance at the Asian Games 2026 in Japan, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday announced a cash award of ₹11 lakh for each player of the team.

In a statement, the Odisha Chief Minister’s Office said the cash awards were announced in recognition of the team’s ‘gold medal triumph’ at the Asian Games.

Majhi congratulated all members of the team for their historic achievement.

Earlier in the day, the Indian men’s hockey team registered a thumping 5-1 victory over Malaysia in the Asian Games 2026 final at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium in Kakamigahara, Japan.

With this victory, India secured its fifth men’s hockey gold medal at the Asian Games, having previously won the top prize in 1966, 1998, 2014 and 2022.

On Thursday, the Odisha Chief Minister had announced a cash reward of ₹11 lakh each for the players of the Indian women’s hockey team following their gold medal victory at the 2026 Asian Games in Gifu.

Each member of the women’s team’s support staff was also announced to receive ₹5.5 lakh.

Odisha is the official sponsor of India’s senior and junior men’s and women’s hockey teams until 2036.
