Actress Wamiqa Gabbi has called for greater compassion towards animals, saying that although they may not communicate in the same language as humans, they experience emotions including love, fear, pain and kindness.
Wamiqa shared a series of videos on Instagram featuring her interactions with hens, puppies and goats. She also included a childhood photograph of herself surrounded by pigeons.
“They may not speak our language, but they feel everything we do … love, fear, pain, and kindness,” she wrote in the caption.
The actress said animals are often treated as though they do not matter, when they need only compassion, care and a safe environment.
Wamiqa also linked her message to Gandhi Jayanti, urging people to make a conscious effort to protect vulnerable living beings.
“This Gandhi Jayanti, let’s make a small promise. To be kinder, to protect those who cannot protect themselves, and to make this world a little safer for every living being,” she wrote.
Wamiqa, who turned 33 last month, began her screen journey as a child with a brief appearance in the 2007 Hindi film ‘Jab We Met’. She later established herself as a leading actor in Punjabi cinema with films including ‘Tu Mera 22 Main Tera 22’, ‘Nikka Zaildar 2’, ‘Nikka Zaildar 3’ and ‘Kali Jotta’.
She subsequently worked across languages, featuring in the Tamil romance ‘Maalai Naerathu Mayakkam’ and Malayalam sports drama ‘Godha’.
Her Hindi streaming work includes the period drama series ‘Jubilee’ and Vishal Bhardwaj’s thriller ‘Khufiya’, in which she played a spy’s wife. She has also appeared in ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’, ‘Bhooth Bangla’ and ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh Do’.
Wamiqa will next be seen in ‘Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam’, directed by Avinash Arun and starring Rajkummar Rao, Jaideep Ahlawat and Sikandar Kher alongside her.
The upcoming Hindi film is based on the life of lawyer Ujjwal Nikam, who represented the prosecution in the trial involving Ajmal Kasab in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack case.
