Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced a cash award of Rs 11 lakh each for the players of the Indian Women’s Hockey Team for winning gold at the Asian Games 2026.
The Chief Minister also announced Rs 5.5 lakh each for the team’s support staff in recognition of their contribution to India’s memorable victory.
Majhi congratulated the team for its outstanding performance, determination and commitment, which have brought immense pride to the nation. “Heartiest congratulations to the Indian Women’s Hockey Team on winning the Gold Medal at the Asian Games 2026,” the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said in a post on X.
He noted that the victory marked India’s second Asian Games gold medal in women’s hockey after the team’s historic triumph in 1982.
“This is more than a victory. It is a celebration of the strength, courage and determination of Nari Shakti shining on the biggest stage. A proud and historic moment for Indian Hockey. The nation celebrates our champions,” Majhi said.
“Odisha Government stands firmly with Indian hockey and remains committed to supporting and nurturing sporting excellence,” it said.
India won the Asian Games women’s hockey gold medal after a gap of over four decades with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over defending champions China in the final of the Aichi-Nagoya Games on Friday. The win also secured direct qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
