Pranavi Urs scripted history on Saturday, becoming the first Indian woman to win an individual golf gold medal at the Asian Games after finishing at the top of the leaderboard at Kasugai Country Club East Course.
Pranavi carded an even-par 70 in the final round to finish the four-day competition at 15-under 265, securing the gold medal. She also played a key role in India’s women’s team winning silver, with the team finishing at 14-under 546 over four rounds.
China’s Yin Ruoning and Singapore’s Shannon Tan shared the silver after both finished at 14-under.
Pranavi Urs overcomes early setback to seal historic gold
Pranavi started the final round with a three-stroke advantage over Tan but suffered an early setback with a triple bogey on the third hole, which briefly pushed her down to second place.
The Indian golfer responded in style, picking up birdies on the sixth, 10th and 13th holes to reclaim the lead. She then held her nerve through the final stretch, finishing the 18th hole at even par to seal the historic gold.
In the other Indian results, Aditi Ashok finished 14th after shooting a three-under 67 in the final round to end on two-over 282. Diksha Dagar finished joint 23rd after carding a seven-over round on the final day and ending 12-over overall.
India women’s team secure silver in historic campaign
Pranavi’s individual triumph was followed by a silver medal for India in the women’s team event, with the trio of Pranavi, Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar finishing at 14-under 546.
China claimed the gold with a score of 22-under 538, while India secured the silver after the best two scores from the three-member team were counted towards the final total.
Aditi produced a three-under 67 in the final round to finish 14th individually at two-over 282, while Diksha carded a seven-over 77 and ended joint 23rd at 12-over.
The silver also marked India’s first medal in the women’s team golf event at the Asian Games.
