Sri Lanka Announces T20 Squad for Series Against Pakistan, Kusal Mendis to Captain

Sri Lanka has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 International series against Pakistan.

The team will be captained by Kusal Mendis. This series marks the beginning of a multi-format tour, set to kick off in October with the T20 matches.

All matches will take place in Rawalpindi. The tour, which runs from October 9 to November 21, will commence with the T20 series. Following that, a five-match ODI tri-series involving Pakistan, England, and Sri Lanka will be held. The tour will conclude with two Test matches against Pakistan, which are part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27.

Mendis will lead a batting lineup that includes Kamil Mishara, Sineth Jayawardene, Lahiru Udara, Sahan Arachchige, Kamindu Mendis, and Dasun Shanaka. Chamindu Vikramasinghe will further bolster the batting strength. Mendis has been in excellent form following a recent tour of England, where he scored a total of 198 runs in three innings, including a remarkable 121 in the second ODI.

Sahan Arachchige, Sineth Jayawardene, and Vijayakanth Viyaskanth are currently part of Sri Lanka’s  team and will compete for a bronze medal on October 3. Spin options for the squad include Dunith Wellalage, Mahesh Theekshana, and Viyaskanth, while the pace attack will be led by Chamira, Fernando, Tushara, and Malinga. Asitha Fernando was the top wicket-taker for Sri Lanka in the ODI series against England, claiming seven wickets.

Notably, Sri Lanka will be without Pathum Nissanka and Wanindu Hasaranga for this T20 series due to injuries. However, if they receive fitness clearance, they may return for the upcoming ODI tri-series.

The Sri Lankan squad for the T20 series against Pakistan is as follows: Kusal Mendis (captain), Kamil Mishara, Sineth Jayawardene, Lahiru Udara, Sahan Arachchige, Kamindu Mendis, Dasun Shanaka, Chamindu Vikramasinghe, Dunith Wellalage, Mahesh Theekshana, Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, Dushmantha Chameera, Binura Fernando, Nuwan Tushara, and Ishan Malinga.
