When Lovlina won gold at the Asian Games

NAGOYA: India’s Lovlina Borgohain achieved a historic feat at the Asian Games. The Indian boxer won the gold medal in the women’s 75kg boxing category after defeating China’s Bao Xiyi.

Lovlina secured a comprehensive 5-0 victory in the final.

The Indian boxer achieved one of the biggest milestones of her career on her birthday. With this victory, Lovlina became the second Indian woman boxer to win an Asian Games gold medal. Mary Kom, who won gold at the 2014 Asian Games, was the first Indian woman boxer to accomplish the feat.

Lovlina faced reigning Asian Championship gold medallist Bao Xiyi in the final. The Indian started confidently and maintained clear dominance throughout the bout.
Lovlina reached the final after defeating Kazakhstan’s world champion Natalia Bogdanova 3-2 in the semifinals. She had earlier defeated South Korea’s Seong Su-yeon 5-0 in the quarterfinals.

Lovlina, who won a silver medal at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, raised it to gold this time. The victory is another major achievement in the career of the Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist.

With this, India’s medal tally at the 2026 Asian Games reached 70, including 12 gold, 24 silver and 34 bronze medals. India is presently sixth in the medal tally.
