Kumkum Mohod, Dhiraj Bommadevara Win Silver In Mixed Team Archery

Kumkum Mohod and Dhiraj Bommadevara won an Asian Games silver for India in the mixed team recurve archery, losing 5-2 to China in the final.

The Chinese pair was the better of the two in the final and won the gold. China took an early 2-0 lead after winning the opening set 38-37. Kumkum Anil Mohod started with a 9 for India, while Dhiraj Bommadevara added an 8. China’s Zhu opened with a 10, but Li could only manage an 8. Kumkum then shot another 8, before Dhiraj produced a crucial 10. Zhu followed with a 10, and Li added another 10 to give China the set.

China extended their lead to 4-0 by winning the second set. Kumkum again started with an 8, while Dhiraj responded with a 9. Zhu scored a 9 and Li an 8 in the opening rotation. Kumkum then hit another 8, but Dhiraj came up with another 10. China finished with two 10s to take the set.

India finally hit back in the third set to keep Asian Games gold hopes alive. Kumkum started with an 8, but Dhiraj delivered a 10. Zhu scored a 9 and Li a 10. Kumkum then found a 10 and Dhiraj added a 9 to take India to 37. Zhu hit another 10, but Li managed only a 7 when a 9 would have sealed the gold. India took the set and stayed alive.

The final set went down to the wire. India put up 37 points, while China matched the score. Zhu scored a 9, leaving Li needing a 10 for gold. He delivered under pressure, hitting the perfect 10 to seal China’s victory.

Earlier in the day, the Indian women’s team of Ankita Bhakat, Kirti and Kumkum Mohod, created history and won their first-ever Asian Games gold in the event after beating South Korea 5-3 in the final.
