Indian Mens Volleyball Team Falls to Pakistan in Asian Games Quarterfinals

The Indian men’s volleyball team faced a disappointing defeat against Pakistan in the quarterfinals of the   held on October 1 in Okazaki.

The match ended in straight sets, with scores of 25-19, 25-23, and 25-18, leaving India still in search of a medal since 1986.

Played at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Gymnasium, the match started competitively, with the teams tied at 11-11. However, Pakistan soon took control, scoring five consecutive points to lead 16-11. As the first set progressed, Pakistan extended its advantage and clinched it 25-19.

In the second set, India initially led 19-16 but failed to maintain that momentum. A series of errors allowed Pakistan to rally back, winning the set 25-23 and taking a 2-0 lead in the match. Pakistan continued to dominate in the third set, finishing it 25-18.

India had advanced to the quarterfinals after winning all three of its pool matches in the tournament. The team began its campaign with a 3-0 Vietnam, followed by another 3-0 win against Hong Kong. In their final pool match, India staged a remarkable comeback against Qatar, winning 3-2 after losing the first two sets.

This loss marks the third consecutive defeat for the Indian men’s volleyball team against Pakistan in the Asian Games, having previously lost 3-0 in Hangzhou 2023 and 3-1 in Jakarta 2018.

Historically, the Indian team has secured three medals in volleyball at the Asian Games, including a silver in 1962 in Jakarta and bronze medals in Tokyo in 1958 and Seoul in 1986. Pakistan, on the other hand, has won only one medal, a bronze, also in Jakarta in 1962.
