Shubman Gill struck an unbeaten 223, the fastest ever ODI double ton, while Rohit Sharma scored a 75-ball 101, as India crushed the West Indies by eight wickets in the second match to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series here on Wednesday.
In reply to West Indies’s highest-ever ODI score of 405-7, India rode on Gill’s 233 not out off 133 balls (26 fours, 8 sixes) and Rohit’s 35th century (101 off 75 balls; 10 fours, 6 sixes) to a famous win, with the openers putting on 255 runs for the first wicket. India scored 406 for two in 43.3 overs to win with 39 balls to spare.
Earlier, Centuries from John Campbell, Shai Hope and Amir Jangoo powered the West Indies to their first 400-plus total in the 50-over format. Campbell channelled the inner Universe Boss perfectly, flaying the Indian attack with brute power and freedom in his 101 off 68 balls (9×4, 5×6).
Hope and Jangoo then kept WI in complete control through the middle and late overs, maintaining a scoring rate around eight an over.
