The second ODI between India and the West Indies on Wednesday (September 30) at the Barspara Stadium in Guwahati saw history being created as the two sides played a high-scoring clash that saw as many as five players score centuries in an unprecedented moment in the format’s 55-year history.
After the hosts won the toss and chose to bowl first, they posted a huge total of 405 on the board, with John Campbell (101), Shai Hope (104), and Amir Jagnoo (114) scoring centuries. In reply, India’s opening pair of skipper Shubman Gill and former captain Rohit Sharma posted a 255-run opening partnership, with both players scoring tons.

Since the first-ever ODI match was played in 1971, there have been 5023 games in the format so far, but this is the first-ever game in which there have been five centuries scored. Previously, there have been three ODIs in which there were four centuries scored across both teams.

West Indies are set to become the first team to register a defeat despite three players scoring centuries for them in an innings.
This incredible match comes just three days after six ODI centuries were scored in a day on Sunday (September 27) with Justin Greaves, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli scoring tons in the first ODI between these two teams, while Temba Bavuma and David Miller reached the milestone for South Africa against Australia while Tom Banton made a ton for England against Sri Lanka. If two Proteas player again score a century against the world champions in the ongoing third ODI, that record would be broken too.
