Actor Ranvir Shorey has responded to Rahul Bhatt’s recent account of an altercation involving the actor and Pooja Bhatt, saying that the clarification has finally brought “some truth” to a dispute that dates back more than two decades.
Rahul, during a recent podcast, said he had physically confronted Shorey after an altercation between the actor and his sister, Pooja. He said he hit Shorey and broke the glass of his car, while also expressing regret over his actions.
Reacting to Rahul’s comments on X, formerly Twitter, Shorey said he was glad that what he described as years of “malicious propaganda and slander” had given way to what he considered the truth.
“I’m glad over 20 years of malicious propaganda and slander has finally given way to some truth. Let me add the missing piece, so it can finally rest now, defending yourself against violence to escape someone toxic is not ‘hitting’,” Shorey wrote.
Rahul had also praised Shorey for not holding grudges and for handling the situation well.
Shorey and Pooja Bhatt were in a relationship in the early 2000s after becoming close while working on the film Jism. The two later lived together, but their relationship ended in 2002 amid a bitter fallout. Both have previously spoken publicly about the relationship and offered differing accounts of what happened.
Shorey had earlier alleged that Pooja’s family portrayed him as an alcoholic and abusive partner. He also claimed that Rahul assaulted him following an argument.
Pooja later married VJ-turned-restaurateur Manish Makhija in 2003, while Shorey married actor Konkona Sen Sharma in 2010. Both marriages later ended in separation.
