Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the centenary celebrations of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) tomorrow (1 October) at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, marking 100 years since the Constitutional body’s establishment in 1926.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to address the gathering at 11 am as part of a two-day programme that began today (30 September).
During the event, PM Modi will release a UPSC Centenary Commemorative Coin and a Commemorative Stamp, alongside a book titled ‘100 Landmark Judgements – Shaping the Policies of UPSC and Public Service Commissions in India’.
The programme marks the culmination of year-long celebrations that commenced on 1 October last year.
The centenary programme has brought together stakeholders from across the country, including chairmen and members of state public service commissions, senior government officials, academicians and UPSC officials.
Today’s proceedings featured ‘Shatabdi Samaroh – Manthan’ at Bharat Mandapam, comprising addresses by eminent speakers followed by panel discussions on various themes related to public service commissions.
The Union Public Service Commission was established on 1 October 1926 following recommendations of the Lee Commission and provisions of the Government of India Act, 1919.
The Constitutional body conducts recruitment examinations for All India Services and Central Civil Services, with over 1.3 million applicants competing for approximately 1,255 positions in recent years.
Tomorrow’s event will formally conclude the UPSC’s year-long centenary celebrations commemorating its century of merit-based civil service recruitment in India.
