In a thrilling encounter at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, India and West Indies faced off in the second ODI of their series.
Indian captain Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bowl first.
This match marks the international debut of Aakib Nabi for India. After winning the toss, Gill explained, “We will bowl first. The pitch has a bit more grass and looks somewhat patchy. Our comeback in the last match was impressive. The humidity here adds to the challenge for our bowlers, but everyone is in good form. We have made one change; Aakib Nabi is debuting in place of Nitish.”
Following their loss in the first ODI, West Indies made four changes to their playing XI. Captain Shai Hope, after losing the toss, stated, “Had we won the toss, we would have chosen to field as well. The toss is a 50-50 chance, but we have another opportunity to perform well. There are areas we need to improve. The pitch looks good.”
In the first ODI, India delivered an outstanding performance. Virat Kohli showcased his batting prowess, scoring a remarkable 139 runs off 88 balls, including 10 fours and 9 sixes. Captain Shubman Gill also contributed with a century. Rohit Sharma missed out on a big score but appeared to be in good form. On the other hand, West Indies had a commendable outing in the first match, with Justin Greaves scoring a century. However, he is absent from this game due to injury. John Campbell displayed form with a solid 62 runs off 60 balls, and Aamir Jangoo also contributed with a half-century. The Caribbean side will be looking for improved bowling performances in this match, especially from Alzarri Joseph, who was expensive in the previous game, conceding 81 runs in 9 overs, and Gudakesh Motie, who failed to take a wicket.
