Rohit Sharma hailed Virat Kohli impact as the captain of the Indian Test team and the impact he had while leading the team in the longest format of the game.
The veteran Indian batter claimed that both have a lot of discussions with each other about how they can improve.
For those unversed, Kohli is India’s most successful Test captain. He led the team on a full-time basis for a seven-year period between 2015 and 2022. In his stint, India won 40 of the 68 matches they played while also registering their first-ever series victory on Australian soil when they lifted the 2018-19 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
“I appreciate what he has done, you know, when he took over as a captain with the Test team, especially. It was brilliant, what he did with that team. And, at the same time, there has been a lot of discussion about how both of us as individuals can improve our own game. So, sometimes if something is happening with my batting, he comes and mentions it, sometimes I mention it. So that conversation always keeps going, so it’s not different,” said Rohit while speaking to Jiostar.
Rohit replaced Virat as India’s Test captain and captained the team in 24 matches in which India won 12 times. He was also the Indian cricket legend’s successor as white-ball captain and led the team to triumph in the 2024 T20 World Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy.
‘His Home Is Far Away From Mine’
Rohit claimed that as both live far away from each other and are playing only one format, they do not get the chance to meet a lot these days, unlike previous times, when they used to spend a lot of time together while touring with the national team when they were all-format players.
“Now we meet very rarely because his house is quite far from mine. And every month, or every month and a half, an ODI series happens, so because of that it’s less. Otherwise, until a year ago, every 5-7 days we were on tour, so we didn’t get much time at home. Now both of us are spending more time at home, which is always nice,” said Rohit.
