Indian athlete Parul Chaudhary has clinched her second bronze medal at the , held in Nagoya.
She finished the women’s 5000-meter final with a time of 15:14.61, securing third place. Earlier, she also earned a bronze in the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase.
Bahrain’s Winfred Yavi took home the gold medal, while Japan’s Nozomi Tanaka claimed the silver. Parul showcased remarkable speed in the final stretch, overtaking Kazakhstan’s Norah Tanui to secure her podium finish.
Despite a fast start, Parul remained close to the leading group for most of the race. Tanui initially set the pace, distancing herself from the pack, while Yavi joined the chasing group. In the early laps, Parul and her teammate Seema Kumari were positioned in the middle of the field, as Tanui consistently increased her speed. Yavi began closing the gap after halfway, positioning herself as a contender for the title.
As the race reached its climax, Parul stayed in contention for a medal, while Seema fell behind. Yavi surged ahead in the final lap, pushing her pace, while Tanaka attempted to keep up with the Bahraini runner.
Previously, Parul had won the gold medal in the women’s 5000 meters at the 2022 ., finishing with a season-best time of 15:04.26. Tanaka had recorded a season-best of 14:58.35, the fastest time in that race, while Yavi impressed with a remarkable season-best of 14:30.06.
For Yavi, this victory marked a significant achievement, completing a ‘triple’ by winning titles in the 10,000 meters and 3000 meters steeplechase earlier in the Continental event in Japan.
