NAGOYA: Malayali athlete Murali Sreeshankar has bagged the silver medal in the long jump at the Asian Games. Sreeshankar finished second with a jump of 8.07 metres.
China’s Shi Yuhao won the gold, while Uzbekistan’s Anvar Anvarov took the bronze.
Sreeshankar produced his silver-winning jump on his second attempt. However, he pulled out after suffering an injury during his fourth attempt and did not take his final two attempts. Gold medallist Shi Yuhao jumped 8.17 metres, while bronze medallist Anvarov cleared 8.06 metres.
This is Sreeshankar’s second consecutive medal at the Asian Games. He had also won silver at the previous edition. He has also won a silver medal at the Asian Championships and two silver medals at the Commonwealth Games.
