India has assured one more medal, with Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain registering a dominant 5-0 win in the women’s 75 kg quarterfinal against Korea’s Seong Suyeon at the Nishio Gymnasium.
The 2023 Hangzhou Games silver medallist has now assured herself a second Asian Games medal after a strong performance in the quarterfinals at the ongoing Asian Games.
Both boxers started with a defensive approach, but Borgohain remained dominant, taking the opening round 5-0. The Indian pugilist also took the second round, landing precise punches and using her long reach to her advantage.
In the final round, Borgohain continued her dominant display, pressing forward with some fierce blows against the 2010 Asian Games bronze medallist and sealing another 5-0 round. All five judges scored the bout 30-27 in the Indian’s favour.
With the win, India have confirmed their fourth medal at the prestigious Games. Earlier, in the men’s +90 kg category after defeating Adthapong Saengtep in the quarterfinals.
Earlier, Ankush Panghal and Parveen Hooda also confirmed medals in their respective categories. Ankush, the current Commonwealth Games champion, assured at the ongoing Games after defeating Tajikistan’s Nekruz Salimov in the men’s 80 kg quarterfinals by a unanimous 5-0 decision.
Meanwhile, in the women’s 65 kg category after defeating Uzbekistan’s Navbakhor Khamidova 5-0 in the quarterfinal.
The Indian controlled the contest with a measured approach, using her reach and speed to keep Khamidova at a distance and pick her punches. The Uzbek, a 2025 World Championships silver medallist, struggled to impose herself as Parveen relied on quick combinations and counter-attacks to win on all five judges’ scorecards.
