The effect of the crackdown on terrorists by the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir is also visible. The number of active terrorists in Jammu has now reached double figures, whereas in 2022 their number was much higher. Continuous operations are being conducted by the police and army to eliminate terrorists in the valley. Most of the terrorists operating in the valley are associated with Pakistani terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba.
According to the information received from CRPF, a total of 91 terrorists are now active in Jammu and Kashmir. Of these, 30 are local, while 61 are foreign terrorists. The number of active terrorists in 2022 was 135. Of these, 50 were local while 85 were active foreign terrorists. In comparison to last year, there has been a significant decline in the number of active terrorists.
72 terrorists killed in 2023
Last year i.e. in 2023, a total of 72 terrorists were killed in Jammu and Kashmir. 22 local terrorists and 50 foreign terrorists were involved in this. At the same time, in 2022, a total of 187 terrorists were killed in encounters with security forces. Of these, 130 terrorists were local while 57 were foreigners. CRPF said that most of the terrorists active in the valley are associated with Pakistani terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba.
107 drones recovered
At the same time, 107 drones were shot down or recovered by the Border Security Force i.e. BSF on the India-Pakistan border in 2023. PTI quoted a senior BSF officer as saying that most of the recovered drones were made in China and were recovered from fields located on the border. According to officials, BSF soldiers also killed three Pakistani infiltrators and arrested 23 Pakistani citizens including two smugglers.
‘Terrorism has reduced but not completely eliminated’
Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief RR Swain said on Monday that terrorism has reduced in the region, but it has not been completely eliminated. He asked the police personnel to work towards peace so that people can participate in the elections without any fear. In his New Year message to the police officers, he said that the challenge before them in 2024 is not to give a chance to the collapsed terrorist network to emerge in any form.
