Sundeep Kishan’s heist comedy thriller Sigma is set to release on October 2, and the team recently held the film’s pre-release event, with Megastar Chiranjeevi gracing the occasion as the chief guest.
Director Jason Sanjay thanked Chiranjeevi for attending the event and said Sigma is an action-adventure film packed with several fresh elements, including a heist and a treasure hunt.
“Sigma is very well-packaged so that audiences of all age groups can find something special to connect with. Thanks to Sundeep brother for trusting me,” he said.
Sundeep Kishan expressed heartfelt gratitude to Chiranjeevi, calling him a constant source of inspiration and support for generations of Telugu cinema.
“Not just for me, but for the entire Telugu film industry—my generation, the generation before me, and the next generation—our Guru is Megastar Chiranjeevi. There are many who teach us about success and failure, but culture and values are what Chiranjeevi has taught this entire industry. If we are able to love Telugu cinema, enjoy it, and view cinema at an international standard today, the foundation was laid and carried forward on his shoulders by Chiranjeevi,” he said.
The actor also recalled how the film came together.
“When Sanjay came to Hyderabad and narrated the story, I asked him, ‘Why me? There are so many actors in Tamil and Telugu cinema.’ Sanjay’s answer deeply touched me. After nearly 15 years as an actor, having a young director look at me in that way and choose me for his film gave me an incredible sense of fulfilment. Sanjay became like my younger brother,” Sundeep said.
Sundeep praised the entire team and described the film as a fun action-comedy with a British-Korean flavour, while its characters remain rooted in South India. He said the action is quirky and unconventional rather than being built around routine mass fights.
He added that the film does not depend on conventional dance numbers or exaggerated hero elevations, with Sanjay instead focusing on humour, energy and honesty. He also revealed that the director completed the film in 63 days, ahead of the promised 70-day schedule.
“Please don’t come to theatres thinking of it only as a Sundeep Kishan film or as a film directed by Thalapathy Vijay’s son. Come and watch the work of a 24-year-old Gen-Z filmmaker who chose to stand on his own talent, hard work and conviction,” he said.
Chiranjeevi, meanwhile, explained why he continues to attend events involving young filmmakers and actors despite his busy schedule.
“When youngsters make a movie and bring it before the audience, if I can be of some help and support to them, why shouldn’t I go, encourage them, and say a few inspiring words? I don’t see it as a strain; I see it as my duty,” he said.
He also revealed that his primary reason for attending the event was his affection for Sundeep Kishan and Jason Sanjay.
“Looking at Sundeep Kishan feels like looking at a member of my own family. I appreciate him for consistently choosing varied characters. He is always looking for unique stories and ways to present himself differently. If he keeps going like this, avoids falling into a routine pattern, and continues to showcase his uniqueness, the industry will give him a special place,” Chiranjeevi said.
Chiranjeevi also spoke warmly about Jason Sanjay, recalling his long association with the filmmaker’s family. He remembered working with Jason’s grandfather, S. A. Chandrasekhar, on films such as Chattaniki Kallu Levu and Devanthakudu. He also recalled attending Vijay’s early film ceremonies, making his association with the family even more special.
Praising Jason for choosing direction instead of acting, Chiranjeevi noted that the young filmmaker resembles his father, Vijay, during his younger days. However, he said Jason’s passion for writing and filmmaking appears to have come from his grandparents.
The Sigma team was left surprised when Chiranjeevi revealed and decoded the meaning behind the film’s title.
“I discovered that a Sigma character is someone who doesn’t listen to anyone, follows his own mind, believes in himself, and moves forward independently. Perhaps that reflects the lead character in this film. The trailer looks very entertaining, energetic, and packed with crime and thrills,” he said.
While speaking about Thaman, Chiranjeevi also shared a reference from the Ramayana involving Lord Rama and Hanuman. He further revealed that Thaman has completed the background score for his film Kaaka and confirmed that the movie will arrive in cinemas during Sankranti.
