Mona Singh has been taking on a variety of roles across Hindi cinema and streaming projects, moving between emotionally driven characters and more demanding genre parts. Her recent work includes Border 2, where she played Sunny Deol’s wife and a grieving mother, followed by the OTT project Subedaar, in which she portrayed a mafia boss.

Discussing the way she approaches acting assignments, Mona said the length of a role has never been the primary factor behind her decisions. She explained that every performer, whether playing a lead or a supporting character, is ultimately responsible for bringing a distinct personality and performance to the screen.
According to Mona, filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani once advised her not to measure a role by its screen time. Instead, he encouraged her to concentrate on what she could contribute to the character and how effectively she could present it.
Mona said the impact of a performance is ultimately determined by the audience, while an actor’s responsibility is to approach the work sincerely and give it their best.
3 Idiots Came From Her Admiration For Hirani
Mona also recalled how she became part of 3 Idiots. When she was offered the film around 2007-08, she said she was already excited by the opportunity to work with a cast that included Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, Boman Irani and Kareena Kapoor.
Her admiration for Rajkumar Hirani also played a major role in her decision. Mona said she was a fan of the filmmaker and was immediately keen to join the project rather than focusing first on the size of her character.
It was during her subsequent conversations with Hirani about the part that he explained his approach to roles and screen time. That experience, according to Mona, reinforced the importance of concentrating on the work rather than judging a character simply by how long it appears on screen.

Her film work includes 3 Idiots, where she appeared alongside Aamir Khan and the ensemble cast. She later worked with Khan again in Laal Singh Chaddha, playing the actor’s mother in the film.
