Actor and filmmaker Dhanush attended the 72nd National Film Awards with his sons, Yatra and Linga, and said he was happy to see them share the spotlight with him at the prestigious event.
Dhanush posted photographs with his sons on Instagram, joking that he did not mind them “stealing his thunder” while dedicating his achievement to his fans.
“When your thunder is stolen and you don’t mind it,” Dhanush wrote in the post, expressing gratitude to his fans and describing them as the pillars of his strength.
Yatra and Linga attended the ceremony dressed in formal outfits, while Dhanush opted for a more relaxed traditional look featuring a shirt, mundu and chappals.
The actor received two honours at the 72nd National Film Awards. His film Raayan won the award for Best Tamil Film, marking his first National Award as a director. He also received a Special Mention for his performance in Captain Miller.
Starring Dhanush in the lead, Raayan follows a food-truck owner from North Chennai who tries to protect his family after they become caught between two rival gangs. The film also features Dushara Vijayan, S.J. Suryah, Sundeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram, Selvaraghavan, Prakash Raj, Aparna Balamurali and others.
With his latest honours, Dhanush has now received multiple National Film Awards across acting, production and direction. His first came in 2011, when he won Best Actor for Aadukalam at the 58th National Film Awards.
He subsequently won Best Actor for Asuran at the 67th National Film Awards in 2021. As a producer, he received the Best Children’s Film award for Kaaka Muttai at the 62nd National Film Awards in 2015 and Best Feature Film in Tamil for Visaaranai at the 63rd National Film Awards in 2016.
