The makers of Gunmaaster G9 on Wednesday unveiled the new track ‘Afsaana Banaaya Aapne’, bringing together actor Emraan Hashmi, composer-singer Himesh Reshammiya and director Aditya Datt once again, nearly two decades after their first collaboration.
Emraan said the reunion carried a strong sense of nostalgia but stressed that the new song was not intended to recreate the past.
“There is a lot of nostalgia attached to Himesh, Aditya and me coming together again. But the idea was never to recreate the past. ‘Afsaana Banaaya Aapne’ has its own emotion and its own place in Gunmaaster G9. That is what makes this reunion exciting,” he said in a statement.
The trio first worked together on the 2005 film Aashiq Banaya Aapne, whose title track became closely associated with Emraan and Himesh.
Written and composed by Himesh Reshammiya and sung by Himesh and Asees Kaur, the new romantic track features Emraan opposite Genelia Deshmukh. A brief portion of the song in the closing moments of the film’s teaser had already generated anticipation among fans.
Datt said the music was developed over eight to nine months, with the team spending time together writing, creating and jamming.
“We really wanted to enjoy the music and make something we love. Deepakji has been instrumental in bringing us together,” he said.
Genelia, who is teaming up with Emraan for the first time, said the song appears at a crucial point in the film and described the collaboration as special.
Himesh said the songs of Gunmaaster G9 were designed to complement the film’s world while also offering strong standalone listening value. He credited Datt’s understanding of music and said working with the director was always a pleasure.
Produced by Deepak Mukut, Hunar Mukut and Sangeeta Ahir, and presented by Soham Rockstar Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., Gunmaaster G9 also stars Aparshakti Khurana and Abhishek Singh. Directed by Aditya Datt, the action romance is slated for worldwide theatrical release on November 27, 2026. The film is a production of SRE Studio LLP.
Deepak Mukut said the return of Emraan and Himesh was special because their music had a history with audiences, while the new song introduces their combination to a new generation.
