Actress Kajol celebrated the 83rd birthday of her mother and veteran actress Tanuja with a heartfelt social media tribute, describing her as an “OG”, “rule breaker”, “trendsetter” and an extraordinary mother.
Kajol shared a series of candid photographs with Tanuja and penned a warm birthday message celebrating her personality and influence.

now u can legitimately throw that 83 in my face,” she wrote.
In one of the photographs, Kajol and Tanuja are seen smiling together, while another shows Kajol leaning towards her mother and kissing her on the forehead.
Kajol also described Tanuja as a fashion icon, a strong woman and the best teacher, highlighting the qualities she has admired throughout her life.
Born on September 23, 1943, Tanuja belongs to one of Indian cinema’s prominent film families. She is the daughter of actress Shobhana Samarth and the younger sister of legendary actress Nutan.
Tanuja began her career as a child artiste before establishing herself as one of the leading actresses of the 1960s and 1970s. Her filmography includes Hamari Yaad Aayegi, Memdidi, Chand Aur Suraj, Baharen Phir Bhi Aayengi, Jewel Thief, Haathi Mere Saathi, Anubhav and Mere Jeevan Saathi.
She also worked extensively in Bengali and Marathi cinema during her career.
Tanuja married filmmaker Shomu Mukherjee in 1973 after meeting him while working on Ek Baar Muskura Do. The couple later separated and had two daughters, Kajol and actress Tanishaa Mukerji. They continued to co-parent their daughters after their separation. Shomu Mukherjee died in 2008.
