Suryakumar Yadav has identified Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s six-hitting prowess as the one skill he would most like to acquire from another cricketer.
The Mumbai Indians batter made the observation in a recent interview, highlighting the young Rajasthan Royals sensation’s exceptional ability to clear the boundary with consistency and power.
Sooryavanshi’s IPL 2026 season was nothing short of extraordinary. The 15-year-old accumulated 776 runs across 16 innings at a strike rate of 237.31, establishing himself as one of the tournament’s most explosive batters. His aggressive approach yielded 72 sixes during the season, a record-breaking tally that surpassed the previous benchmark of 59 sixes set by Chris Gayle in 2012.
“There is a young boy, you must have heard his name – Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Definitely his six-hitting ability,” Suryakumar said in an interview with ‘Humans of Bombay’.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s dominance throughout IPL 2026 earned him multiple accolades and established him as one of the tournament’s standout performers. He won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, the Orange Cap for finishing as the leading run-scorer, and the Best Emerging Player honour. From the beginning of the season to its conclusion, Sooryavanshi displayed remarkable consistency and maturity despite his young age.
The contrast between Sooryavanshi and Suryakumar Yadav’s IPL 2026 campaigns was stark. While Sooryavanshi flourished with a record-breaking run tally and prolific six-hitting, Suryakumar managed 270 runs in 12 innings as Mumbai Indians finished ninth among 10 teams. Former Indian T20I captain had previously won the Orange Cap in IPL 2025, but endured a significant dip in form during the 2026 edition.
The left-handed batter’s outstanding IPL campaign also paved the way for his international breakthrough. Following his remarkable performances, he earned a place in India’s T20I squad and was selected for the Asian Games 2026. His swift transition from domestic cricket to the international stage underlined the impact of his IPL 2026 campaign and further highlighted his potential as a future star of Indian cricket.
