Cricket West Indies has revealed its One Day International (ODI) and T20 squads for the upcoming tour of India.
Kamil Pooran has been selected for the T20 team for the first time, while John Campbell returns to the ODI squad after recovering from a hamstring injury.
The teams will face off in three ODI matches on September 27, September 30, and October 3. This will be followed by a five-match on October 6, 9, 11, 14, and 17. The West Indies squad is scheduled to depart the Caribbean on September 21 and will arrive in Thiruvananthapuram on September 23.
The ODI team, led by Shai Hope, retains the core group that recently played in a home series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Campbell missed the last two ODIs against New Zealand due to his injury but is back for the tour of India.
Akeem Auguste has been left out as he continues rehabilitation following surgery in August. Jewel Andrew has been included as an additional option in the top and middle order. Shimron Hetmyer will join the T20 squad later, as he has been given extra time to recover after the Caribbean Premier League.
The first two ODIs against India will serve as the final matches in the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup automatic qualification cycle. Regardless of the outcomes, the West Indies will not be able to surpass their closest rivals in the qualifying table and will thus participate in the ICC qualifying tournament early next year.
After an impressive performance in domestic cricket, Kamil Pooran has earned his first call-up to the T20 team. Quentin Sampson, who was part of the West Indies squad for the ICC T20 World Cup, has also been included. Veteran all-rounder Jason Holder has been rested.
The West Indies ODI team consists of: Shai Hope (captain), Jewel Andrew, John Campbell, Keacy Carty, Roston Chase, Matthew Ford, Justin Greaves, Amir Jangoo, Alzarri Joseph, Shamarh Brooks, Vitalis Lodge, Gudakesh Motie, Keemo Paul, Sherfane Rutherford, and Jaden Seales.
The T20 team includes: Shai Hope (captain), Jewel Andrew, Roston Chase, Matthew Ford, Shimron Hetmyer, Akil Hossain, Shamarh Brooks, Gudakesh Motie, Keemo Paul, Kamil Pooran, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, Quentin Sampson, Romario Shepherd, and Shamar Springer.
