Kia sold 29,042 units in August, overtaking Toyota to rank fifth among car brands in India – New Sorento dispatches has started
Kia India recorded domestic sales of 29,042 units in August 2026, registering 48.11% growth over 19,608 units sold in August 2025. Volumes increased by 9,434 units, led primarily by a strong recovery in Seltos sales. Compared to July 2026, when Kia sold 28,200 units, sales increased 2.99%, adding 842 units.

Seltos remained Kia’s largest-selling model with 11,716 units, up 149.97% from 4,687 units in August 2025. It contributed 40.34% of Kia’s total volumes and accounted for nearly three-fourths of the brand’s net YoY increase. The new-generation Seltos, launched earlier this year, has maintained monthly sales above 10,000 units. However, August volumes declined 6.58% from July’s 12,541 units.
Sonet ranked second with 9,048 units, growing 16.88% YoY over 7,741 units. Sales also improved 1.51% from July’s 8,913 units. and is expected to launch sometime next year. Together, Seltos and Sonet contributed 20,764 units, accounting for approximately 71.50% of Kia’s August sales.
Clavis Recovers Month-On-Month, Syros Gains
Combined Carens Clavis and Clavis EV sales stood at 6,093 units, down 10.69% from 6,822 units a year earlier. Sequentially, however, volumes rose 13.85% from July’s 5,352 units, making the model family the largest contributor to Kia’s net monthly volume increase.
Interestingly, Syros sales have also started to pick up pace post the launch of Syros EV. Last month Syros range recorded 1,742 units, compared to 308 units in August 2025. This translated into 465.58% YoY growth, while sales increased 33.69% over July’s 1,303 units. Sorento appeared in the August figures with 365 units, ahead of its September 4 launch. These volumes should not be read as post-launch customer deliveries. Carnival contributed 78 units, up 56% YoY but down 14.29% from July.
Busy September With Launches And Updates
Following August’s sales performance, Kia has expanded its offerings through a series of September announcements. The month began with the Sorento launch on September 4, bringing diesel and hybrid powertrain choices to its premium SUV lineup.
Kia subsequently introduced more accessible Carens Clavis . It also coverage to eligible Clavis EV buyers purchasing from August 1 and opened pre-bookings for Carnival Hybrid.
The latest addition is the . Carens CNG starts at Rs 12,11,800, while Clavis CNG starts at Rs 12,38,800, ex-showroom. Both use a 1.5-litre engine producing 96 PS and 123 Nm in CNG mode, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox.
These September developments could support Kia’s sales in the coming months, with additional choices across petrol, diesel, CNG, hybrid and electric powertrains. Meanwhile, Kia is expected to revise prices of select models and variants in October 2026, according to RushLane’s sources. The affected vehicles and extent of the increases are yet to be ascertained.
