Davis Cup 2026: World No. 2 Alexander Zverev defeats Croatia’s Matej Dodig 6-4, 7-6 in straight sets

In yet another strong performance, Germany’s Alexander Zverev defeated Croatia’s Matej Dodig, helping his team get a 1-0 lead against latter’s side in the ongoing qualifiers of the Davis Cup.

Zverev has a significant advantage in terms of experience and ranking, which was evident throughout the game against Dodig.

In the first set, Dodig gave a tough competition to Zverev, but the German player’s overall experience helped him come on top of the Croatian. In the end, he won the first set for 6-4.

The second set also witnessed a tough competition between two players, but eventually, Zverev managed to win it against Dodig 7-6. By winning both sets, Zverev was able to win against Dodig 2-0 in straight sets.

Ahead of this match, Zverev had said he wants to win the Davis Cup 2026 for his team, adding that each member of his team was capable of winning the title at every level. He had also said that defeating strong teams like Croatia would be crucial in the path to winning the Davis Cup 2026.

“I want to seize the opportunity to win the Davis Cup with this group. To do that, you have to win matches like this one against Croatia. We have what it takes at every position to win the Davis Cup,” he said.
