Prafull Hinge is gearing up for a significant opportunity as he prepares to represent India A in a red-ball series against Australia A, starting September 22 in Puducherry.
The right-arm fast bowler gained attention recently while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, where he took three wickets in a single over against Rajasthan Royals.
As he approaches his debut with India A, Hinge emphasized his focus on the present moment. “I try not to think too much about what’s ahead. My concentration is solely on the next ball,” he stated. He enjoys the challenges that come with being a bowler, noting, “When the ball comes, I just have to bowl. I will give my best, and whatever happens next will happen.”
Hinge learned of his selection for India A while away from his home in Nagpur. He received a message from a friend in the media, which confirmed his selection. “I was out of town when I got the message. I later checked the BCCI website to confirm it was true,” he recalled. He believes that hard work pays off, saying, “I have been playing red-ball cricket since the Ranji Trophy, and it has always been my favorite format.”
Since the IPL concluded, Hinge has been actively bowling, participating in the Vidarbha Pro T20 League and playing in under-25 emerging matches at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru to maintain his rhythm. “Now that I have this opportunity, I must perform well. I have been consistent across all formats, whether it’s bowling, fielding, or batting,” he explained.
His family in Nagpur has also noticed a change in their lives due to his rising fame. “Now, my parents and family members are more recognized. They used to wait longer for things, but now they receive help more quickly since my performances in the IPL,” Hinge shared.
Hinge credits Varun Aaron, the fast bowling coach for Sunrisers Hyderabad and former Indian pacer, for his ongoing improvement. “He has been following my progress since the IPL. He checks in on my training and bowling regularly,” Hinge said, acknowledging Aaron’s guidance in refining his bowling action.
The 2024 Ranji Trophy debutant has taken 27 wickets in 10 first-class matches. He expressed anticipation for the upcoming challenge in Puducherry, recalling his previous experiences there. “I have played matches in Puducherry before, so I have some understanding of the conditions. However, the heat will be a factor. Adapting quickly will be key, as bowling in the afternoon can be tough,” he noted.
With teammates Yash Rathod, Nachiketa Bhute, and Aman Mokhade by his side, Hinge believes their familiarity will help him integrate smoothly into the team. “It will feel like playing for Vidarbha, the same environment we have,” he concluded.
