The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) held its 95th annual general meeting (AGM) on Friday (September 18) in Mumbai at its headquarters, which is located inside the iconic Wankhede Stadium premises.
The governing body made several key decisions, but a decision on Ajit Agarkar’s future as chief selector was not taken.
BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla claimed that the office bearers have been authorised to take a call. The board’s secretary Devajit Saikia claimed that the ex-Indian pace bowler’s contract still has 15 days and a final decision will be made soon.
“As for the selector, authorisation has been taken. We will decide on the selector later,” said Shukla to reporters after the AGM ended.
“We still have 15 days to go. 15 days is a long time in the world of cricket. We will take a decision in appropriate time and we will let you know about it. Today, there was no discussion on any individual,” said Saikia while interacting with the media.
Asia Cup Trophy Will Return
Saikia claimed that both the Men’s and Women’s Asia Cup trophies will sooner rather than later land in India. Both the Suryakumar Yadav-led men’s team and Harmanpreet Kaur-led women’s team decided against taking the trophy in 2025 and 2026, respectively, according to Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the interior minister of Pakistan.
“Asia Cup trophies, we hope they will come one day. I will not give you a timeline, but I can assure you that both the trophies will land up in this office of the BCCI at the Wankhede Stadium,” said Saikia.
Grand Celebrations For 20th IPL And BCCI’s 100th Anniversary
Meanwhile, the BCCI announced a statement on plans for the celebrations for the 20th edition of the IPL as well as the governing body’s centenary anniversary.
“The General Body unanimously took a call to celebrate the upcoming 20th edition of IPL in 2027 in a grand way. The General Body has initiated the process for the BCCI centenary celebrations in 2028. The centenary will be celebrated through a year-long programme, commencing in December 2027 and continuing through 2028, marking a landmark milestone in the history of Indian Cricket,” said BCCI.
Pay Hike For Match Officials
The board has further revealed a pay hike for umpires and match referees. “The General Body unanimously approved the enhanced payment structure for umpires and match referees and reclassification of the grades,” said the statement.
