The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has crossed an important milestone in India, with cumulative sales going past 15 lakh units. Launched in March 2012, the Ertiga has now completed more than 14 years in the market and has sold 15,13,574 units in India up to August 2026.
The Ertiga was Maruti Suzuki’s first proper entry into the MPV segment. At a time when buyers looking for a seven-seater largely had to look at larger and more expensive vehicles, the Ertiga offered a relatively compact package with three rows of seats, good fuel efficiency and Maruti Suzuki’s wide service network.
Over the years, the formula has remained fairly simple. The Ertiga has focused on space, practicality, running costs and value rather than trying to be the most premium or feature-loaded MPV in the market. The availability of a factory-fitted CNG option has also helped it appeal to buyers looking for lower running costs.

The numbers show how the Ertiga’s sales story has evolved. Its first few years were relatively steady, with annual sales generally staying around the 60,000-unit mark. Sales received a significant boost towards the end of the decade, with FY2020 crossing the 90,000-unit mark.
The bigger change came after that. Sales crossed the one-lakh mark in FY2022 and continued to climb, reaching 1,27,679 units in FY2023 and 1,49,757 units in FY2024. FY2025 saw another big jump to 1,90,974 units, followed by a record 1,98,327 units in FY2026.
Interestingly, the Ertiga came within just 1,673 units of crossing the two-lakh mark in a single financial year in FY2026. It also recorded its highest-ever monthly sales in July 2026, when 21,606 units were sold.
The Ertiga’s success has also played an important role in Maruti Suzuki’s growth in the utility vehicle segment. According to sales data, the Ertiga accounted for around 33 percent of Maruti Suzuki’s UV sales between its launch in March 2012 and August 2026.
The current-generation Ertiga, launched in 2018, has continued to build on the original formula with more space, improved equipment and petrol and CNG powertrain options. Today, it competes with models such as the Kia Carens and Toyota Rumion, while continuing to occupy a more value-focused position in the seven-seat market.
From just over 1,000 units in its launch month to more than 15 lakh units in cumulative sales, the Ertiga has become one of Maruti Suzuki’s most important utility vehicles. More importantly, its sales have grown strongly in recent years, showing that there is still a sizeable market in India for a practical, efficient and relatively affordable seven-seater.
