Daayra’s Kareena Kapoor Wants Audience To Remember Her ‘As An Actor’: I’m Always Their Poo, Geet But… – EXCL

Kareena Kapoor Khan’s 25-year journey saw her stepping into characters that were off-beat, vivacious, soft and even vulnerable. Every time she switched personalities to tell important and entertaining stories, the Indian audience supported her. In recent years, Kareena has chosen scripts that allow her to evolve with time and not repeat what she did a decade ago. Daayra is one of them. During the promotion of the crime thriller directed by Meghna Gulzar on the latest episode of Newshour, the actress told Times Group Editor-in-Chief Navika Kumar that she wants to be remembered as an ‘actor’ instead of just Geet (Jab We Met) and Poo (Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham).

In an exclusive conversation with Times Now,  said, “I wanted to work with Meghna. Her body of work is something that has been attractive and compelling to me as an actor. As I have matured with time, the responsibility that I have taken on as an actor also has been a lot more. Whether it was Jaane Jaan or The Buckingham Murders or Crew, for that matter, which was very entertaining but still had a lot of respect in its own way. Somewhere, this part was exciting enough because the combination of all three of us was also exciting.”

She added, “Prithviraj Sukumaran is an absolutely stunning actor and I wanted to work with him since Aiyyaa. This was the perfect trio that you could get. I don’t think anyone else could have played  , and I want to take great pride in saying that because I am also someone who walks the straight line, and I take responsibility in my eyes, and I wear my success and failure with pride, and somewhere Ajooni is that. The character fits me like a glove, so for the audience to see me like that is also interesting because, as you said, for them I am always going to be their Geet and Poo. Sometimes I want to be remembered as an actor like Ajooni.”

Earlier on Wednesday, Kareena attended a press conference in Delhi with Meghna and  . Talking about the way female cops are showcased in Indian cinema, she shared, “There is a stereotypical format that we have of a cop. She has a certain type of walk that’s manly, ek certain reaction deti hai. In this film, because of the sensitivity of the subject, Meghna was certain that she needed a ‘woman’ cop, who is like a woman- feminine but at the same time does everything with a smile and the way you saw her character Ajooni, who walks the straight ropes.”

Daayra, directed by  , is produced by Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios. The crime thriller releases on September 18.
