The Pakistan hockey team won’t be travelling to India for the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy and the board wants its matches shifted to a neutral venue.
The tournament is scheduled to be playd in Mohali from October to November 5. On Wednesday (September), PTI reported that the Pakistan Hockey Federation was awaiting government clearance. The hockey body released an official statement requesting for the change.
“This decision has been made in light of the current sensitive bilateral situation and security conditions between Pakistan and India, ensuring a safe, dignified, and conducive environment for our national players and officials. Pakistan remains fully committed to the Asian Champions Trophy and the global promotion of hockey. We are prepared to play against all FIH member nations, including India, and stand firmly by the principle of keeping sports separate from politics,” Pakistan hockey’s President Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani said in a statement.
“We strongly hope that the Asian Hockey Federation will favorably consider our honorable proposal for a neutral venue to ensure Pakistan’s uninterrupted and full participation,” he added.
Pakistan had earlier pulled out of the 2025 Asia Cup and Junior Men’s Hockey World Cup as well. Bangladesh replaced Pakistan in the Asia Cup.
