Bigg Boss 20: Mahhi Vij recalls losing Yuva to Kareena Kapoor, says ‘Mani Ratnam had selected me but..’

Mahhi Vij recently opened up about her early years in the entertainment industry and revealed how a series of missed film opportunities eventually led her towards television. During a conversation with fellow Kanika Mann, the actress looked back at her first break, her music video journey and the films she was considered for before making her mark on the small screen.

 

 

Mahhi Vij recalls her first project

Mahhi recalled that she moved to Mumbai and landed her first music video almost immediately. Her debut came with the remix of the popular song Tu Tu Hai Wahi, also known as Tu Tu Hai Wahi (DJ Aqeel Mix), in which she featured in a pink outfit. Recalling the opportunity, she said, “Bombay gayi toh aate hi mujhe music video mil gaya, woh pink dress wala, ‘Tu Tu Hai Wahi’. Woh pehla music video.”

The actress added that the music video opened several doors for her, with many more projects following her debut. After that, my life was filled with music videos, I did all the hit songs at that time,” she recalled.

Mahhi then spoke about moving from music videos to films. She revealed that she worked in South Indian cinema, including projects with Prabhu Deva and Mammootty, before being considered for Mani Ratnam’s Yuva. According to Mahhi, she was selected for the film but eventually lost the opportunity after some equations went wrong. “After the music videos era, I did films in South Cinema. I have worked with stalwarts over there like Prabhu Deva, Mammootty and all. Then I finally got selected for Yuva as lead, Mani Ratnam sir had selected me for the film,” she said.

Talks about losing Yuva to Kareena Kapoor

Mahhi further claimed that she was being considered for a film opposite Vivek Oberoi, a role that eventually went to Kareena Kapoor. However, the project did not materialise for her. “Kareena wale role ke liye Vivek Oberoi ke opposite. But then the equation with someone over there got bad and things didn’t work out in my favour,” she said.

After returning to Delhi, Mahhi said two or three more film discussions also fell through at the last minute. She then decided to explore television, saying, “Toh maine kaha main TV karungi.”

Mahhi went on to become a familiar face on television with shows like Laagi Tujhse Lagan and Balika Vadhu. She also participated in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, Khatron Ke Khiladi and Nach Baliye 5, which she won with Jay Bhanushali. Now, Mahhi has been ruling in .
