India’s premium Jasprit Bumrah continued his impressive return in the 2nd T20I against Afghanistan and also created a new record.
Bumrah bowled a maiden over with the new ball, setting the tone for India’s bowling attack at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
India comfortably chased down Afghanistan’s 159-run target in just 14.5 overs to win the match by 7 wickets and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in 3-match series.
Jasprit Bumrah creates T20I record
Bumrah’s 1st over was a maiden, with Afghanistan skipper Ibrahim Zadran unable to score from any of the six deliveries.
It was Bumrah’s 13th maiden over in T20I cricket, taking him past Zimbabwe’s Richard Ngarava, who has 12. Bumrah now has the most maiden overs among bowlers from Full Member teams in T20Is.

India bowlers kept Afghanistan under pressure
Afghanistan were sent to bat first and they struggled to score freely against India’s strong bowling attack. Nitish Kumar Reddy was India’s best bowler, taking 3 wickets for 24 runs.
Arshdeep Singh picked up 2 wickets, while Bumrah, Axar Patel and Ravi Bishnoi took one wicket each. Afghanistan eventually managed to score 159/8 in 20 overs.
Afghan skipper Ibrahim Zadran top-scored with 37, while Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi added crucial runs towards the end of the innings.
Sanju Samson leads India’s chase
Sanju Samson smashed 57 runs from just 22 balls, hitting 7 fours and 4 sixes. His partner Abhishek Sharma also played aggressively, scoring 39 off 19 balls.
Samson was eventually dismissed by Rashid Khan, who finished with 3 wickets. Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma completed the chase without any further trouble. India reached 163/3 within 14.5 overs and won the match by 7 wickets.
India clinched T20I series against Afghanistan
With this victory, India have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match T20I series. The 3rd and final T20I will be played on September 17.
