India Secures Unassailable Lead Against Afghanistan in T20 Series, Captain Iyer Hints at Changes for Final Match

India has taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the  following a 7  at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday.

Captain Shreyas Iyer indicated that he may give opportunities to players who have yet to feature in the series during the final match.

With two wins under their belt, the Indian team aims to use the last game to acclimate all players to the conditions and allow the management to experiment with combinations. Iyer emphasized the importance of ensuring that all team members are familiar with the playing environment.

After the match, Iyer stated, “We want all players to get accustomed to the wickets and conditions and gain some practice. This match will be a good opportunity to give chances to those who have been sitting out and to make some changes in the combination.”

This approach opens the door for potential changes in India’s playing XI, especially given that several players had limited opportunities in the first two matches. It will also allow the team to test its bench strength while ensuring that as many players as possible gain match experience.

Iyer expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, noting their desire to improve upon their previous victory. “Looking at the performance from the last match, we wanted a fantastic win today, and this match was a perfect example of that,” he remarked.

For Iyer, this series has also been a chance to solidify his leadership role, which he described as challenging at the outset. Instead of dwelling on difficulties, he highlighted the importance of staying balanced and embracing whatever comes his way. “Yes, absolutely. It was tough to accept at first, but the journey is always filled with ups and downs. You must stay as balanced as possible and enjoy the moment without overthinking the past,” he explained.

Discussing how he has managed the challenges of captaincy, Iyer reiterated this mindset, saying, “The more you embrace the conditions, the better they become.”
