Mahindra XUV 7XO Scores 5 Star Bharat NCAP Safety Rating

Mahindra XUV 7XO has secured a 5-star safety rating in the latest Bharat NCAP crash tests. Mahindra’s three-row SUV achieved five stars for both Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and Child Occupant Protection (COP), continuing the company’s focus on strong crash safety performance.

Adult Occupant Protection – 30.76/32

In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, Mahindra XUV 7XO scored 14.76 out of 16 points. The report indicates good protection for the head and upper legs of the driver and front passenger. Some areas, including the driver’s chest and lower legs, were rated adequate.

Performance was stronger in the side impact assessment. XUV 7XO secured the maximum 16 out of 16 points in the side movable deformable barrier test. It also passed the side pole impact test. Combined, these results gave XUV 7XO an Adult Occupant Protection score of 30.76/32, comfortably qualifying it for a five-star rating.

Child Occupant Protection – 44.97/49

Child occupant protection was another strong area, with XUV 7XO scoring 44.97 out of 49 points. This comprises 23.97/24 in the dynamic test, a full 12/12 for CRS installation and 9/13 in the vehicle assessment.

For the 18-month-old child dummy, the rear-facing Britax Romer Dualfix Pro M i-Size child restraint scored 7.97/8 for frontal protection and 4/4 for side protection. The three-year-old child assessment achieved the full 8/8 frontal and 4/4 side-impact scores.

ISOFIX and i-Size child-seat mounting provisions are standard on the second-row outboard seats. The Bharat NCAP assessment also shows compatibility with several tested child restraint systems across applicable seating positions.

Rating Applies Across Petrol And Diesel Variants

Importantly, the five-star Bharat NCAP rating isn’t restricted to a single powertrain or top-spec version. The annexure lists a broad range of XUV 7XO petrol and diesel variants under the rating. The vehicles listed for testing include XUV 7XO AX7 Diesel 2WD 7-seat AT and AX7L Diesel 4WD 7-seat AT. Crash-test weight is listed at 2,059 kg.

Petrol manual and automatic variants from AX through AX7L are covered, while diesel manual and automatic variants are also included. Diesel AWD versions covered include AX7T 7-seater and AX7L 7-seater.

How XUV 7XO Compares With Other Bharat NCAP Tested Cars

Among vehicles tested by Bharat NCAP so far, Mahindra XUV 7XO’s 30.76/32 Adult Occupant Protection score places it 15th when models are ranked by their adult safety score. However, its Child Occupant Protection performance is particularly strong, scoring 44.97 out of a possible 49 points.

Within Mahindra’s own portfolio, XEV 9e currently leads with a perfect 32/32 adult protection score, followed closely by BE 6 at 31.97. Thar Roxx has also scored higher at 31.09, while XUV 7XO sits ahead of XUV400 at 30.38 and XUV3XO at 29.36.

Importantly, these point rankings shouldn’t be interpreted as one vehicle being categorically “safer” than another solely from the combined score. All of these Mahindra models received 5-star ratings, while the individual scores show their respective performance in Bharat NCAP’s adult and child occupant assessments.
