Aamir Khan is reportedly being considered for a new superhero film that could be produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, with R. Balki being discussed as the potential director. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the project is still in the early stages, with the script currently being developed. Khan has reportedly shown interest in the idea, although he has not officially signed the film at this stage.
Project remains in the development phase
The reported film is still some distance away from production. The makers are said to be working on the screenplay, central characters and overall story before making a final commitment to the project. Since the film is being planned on a large scale, its production design and visual world are also expected to receive considerable attention during development.
According to the report, discussions around the screenplay are taking place with Aamir Khan’s involvement. His eventual participation, however, will depend on how the project develops and whether he formally agrees to come on board.
A new collaboration for Aamir and Nadiadwala
If the project moves forward with Khan in the lead, it would mark his first film with producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director R. Balki. Khan and Nadiadwala are known to share a long-standing friendship, but they have not previously worked together on a feature film.
The potential collaboration is therefore notable not only because of the superhero genre but also because it would bring together three established names who have not previously shared a film project in this combination.
Balki’s filmography includes several Amitabh Bachchan collaborations
R. Balki has directed films including Cheeni Kum, Paa, Shamitabh, Ki & Ka, Pad Man, Chup and Ghoomer, along with his work on Lust Stories 2. He has collaborated with Amitabh Bachchan on several projects during his career.
Despite his association with prominent actors, Balki has not previously directed any of the three major Khans of Hindi cinema — Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan or Aamir Khan.
What Balki said about the Khans in 2017
In a 2017 interview, Balki had spoken about the practical difficulties of making films with the major Khan stars. He suggested that pursuing such projects could take a considerable amount of time and said he preferred to remain practical about his filmmaking choices.
The reported superhero project, if it takes shape with Aamir Khan, would therefore represent a new professional pairing for the filmmaker.
Aamir’s other projects are also in development
Khan has several other projects associated with his name. He is expected to work with director Ashutosh Gowariker on Lalkar, described as a period sports drama set against the backdrop of the 1952 India-Pakistan cricket match. Khan may portray former Indian cricketer Lala Amarnath in the film, with shooting reportedly expected to begin in November 2026.
There has also been discussion around a possible sequel to 3 Idiots, with Rajkumar Hirani linked to the project. The original film, released in 2009, starred Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi, with Kareena Kapoor in the female lead and Boman Irani in a key role. Hirani directed the film, while Vidhu Vinod Chopra produced it.
For now, the superhero project remains a reported development rather than a confirmed Aamir Khan signing.
