The biopic on legendary Carnatic music singer and Bharat Ratna awardee M. S. Subbulakshmi is all set to begin. The film will be formally launched on September 16 at a music academy in Chennai.
Legendary actor Kamal Haasan will be the chief guest at the launch event. As we have already reported, Rashmika Mandanna will be essaying the role of M. S. Subbulakshmi in the biopic, which is being directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri of “Jersey” fame.
The biggest talking point about the project is the music by Anirudh Ravichander. While Anirudh is currently one of the most sought-after music composers in India, he is not particularly known for classical music. He rose to prominence with contemporary, high-energy beats and a largely modern, Western-influenced musical style. His decision to take up a project centred on one of India’s greatest Carnatic musicians is therefore an interesting choice.
Gowtam Tinnanuri and Anirudh have already collaborated on “Jersey”, “Kingdom” and “Magic”, which is yet to be released in theatres. The MS Subbulakshmi biopic will mark their fourth collaboration and could also be their most challenging one, given the musical demands of the subject.
Rashmika Mandanna has already begun preparing for the role. Allu Aravind, Bunny Vas and Rockline Venkatesh are jointly producing the project.
